R. Paneir Selvam taught at Malaysia's top private university. At the undergraduate and graduate levels, he taught in a range of programmes.

His interest lies in terrorism, criminal liability and human rights. He has undertaken research in terrorism, transnational money laundering organized crime, corporate criminal liability and terrorists funding post 9/11. He also taught terrorism module and participated as the subject matter expert at the Interpol and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission seminars.
